In memory of Grandpa

by Catherine Cotton

Hi friends! I hope that your week is off to a great start! I've decided to be better about blogging and sharing the fun stories that I get to illustrate! Each week I will share an illustration and the details of the story behind the paint. I hope you enjoy!

I illustrated this special family about a year ago to celebrate the life of a very loved grandpa. This project was filled with meaning for my friend, Bitia. Read below as she shares the story behind this illustration.

"My grandpa was a kind and gentle man. He loved baseball (particularly the LA Dodgers), and some of the fondest memories I have as a little girl is sitting next to him quietly as he watched baseball on TV. In December of 2013 my dear grandfather’s health declined significantly, and on January 27th, 2014 he went on to be with the Lord, just a few months shy of turning 90. We miss him dearly; he was a pillar of our family, a provider and protector. That same fall my family received some unexpected news – my aunt (his youngest daughter) was pregnant! And not just any pregnant – pregnant with TWINS! Our family was overjoyed and excited that my little cousin Valeria was going to be a big sister to two brothers! The twins were not due until March, but God had other plans that blew my family away entirely. Many twin pregnancies come with complications and early labor, and our twins were no different. They were born at 7 months…on January 27th, 2015! Exactly a year after my sweet Grandfather passed away! Even though we all wished my grandfather had been with us to meet our precious boys, we are so blessed that our sweet heavenly Father redeemed that day for us. It is because of this that I chose to immortalize that blessing through one of Catherine’s illustrations. Having my grandpa there, front and center with his LA Dodgers cap on and the twins by his side brought tears to my family’s eyes when they opened up this present on Christmas 2015. Thank you, Catherine, for helping my family create a memory that we will cherish forever."
